What Happened This Weekend…

Something happened over the weekend that I wanted to talk to you about. I’ll give you the brief story and then I’ll loop back to the lessons my family is leaning into.

The Story
My partner, Michael, and I are co-founders of a permaculture education centre. It’s what I do when I’m not with you. This year, before we planned our 2022 permaculture course curriculum, we decided to take a public stance on vaccinations. We have students from all over come to our home to learn with us and it’s our primary responsibility to ensure the safety of these individuals. Up to now, that has meant masks, sanitizing stations, government regulated classroom sizes, and social distancing. Now that the vaccine is so widely available in Canada and the US, we added vaccinations to that list.

Of course, there will always be people who disagree with your values. Always. There will always be people who become vocal, who feel insulted, and who will try to call you out. That is what happened this weekend. Out of the blue, we received an angry email from a stranger.

The more visible you get, the more visible you are, right?

So as Michael responds to this person, we’re also leaning into all the messages of gratitude we’ve received BECAUSE…

The Lesson(s)
1. You are not for everyone and that is a good thing.
AND
2. Your values aren’t true values if you don’t have action to back them up.

When you speak your mind, when you decide to lean fully into who you are and what you believe in, when you allow yourself to be truly aligned with your ideals AND your work, magic happens. And as the philosopher, T. Swift says, haters gonna hate hate hate hate. As hard as that truth is, it’s simply a part of holding yourself in your integrity. Lean into number 1.

What You Can Do
⭐️ What values do you hold true?
⭐️ Ask yourself why you feel the way you do about them?
⭐️ What actions can you take to show who you are in this world?

Because your values are your magnet. The right people will be attracted, even as the wrong people are repelled.
