Hi Dailey. The intent of this article was to highlight how often entrepreneurs with privilege use that privilege to co-opt the voices of the more marginalized. In this specific case, it’s important that people who are white (or less so, white-presenting) step aside to allow voices from people of colour because ours are the overly-dominant voices in our society, and as such we be conscious of using quotes incorrectly for our own personal or professional gain. If the word ‘white’ wasn’t in there, it would no longer be a conversation about privilege but about something else entirely.
