A Wish For You This Season…

One of the constant attributes I’ve seen in all the business owners who have come through my inbox in the last decade is that we have a tendency to push ourselves through…well…everything.

Qualifying event in your life? No problem, I’ll just take this one client call. Sick with a fever in bed? It’s just a little cold, besides I have a deadline. Just had a baby and haven’t slept in months? No worries. I can bounce the baby AND check my email.

We have high expectations of ourselves. Too high, sometimes.

And this is part of our success. It’s partly the reason why we have accomplished so much in our lives. It’s partly the reason why we succeed at the tasks we dedicate ourselves to. It’s not that failure isn’t an option…it’s that we are constantly running in the other direction.

So as the days get shorter over the next week and as we ease into the new year, I have a wish for you. Something I’d like you to consider:

Sit the fuck down. Take a breather. Read a book. Watch a movie. Wear your pjs all day. Do some colouring. Lie on the floor and do nothing but look at the ceiling. Whatever it takes.

Find the margin where this is possible for you.

And then, take a big breath in because you have work to do. No more running. Just a steady walk in the direction of your dreams from here on in.

You’ve got this.

In the meantime, inhale/exhale. You deserve to rest — not to make yourself more productive, but because you’re human and that’s a thing that humans need to do.
